Rakkii Nomi Spring 2026 – Wrap Up

We at the Renchan Glasgow Riichi Club are proud to have helped the Auld Riichi Mahjong Club organise the Rakkii Nomi Spring 2026 Tournament. This was the first open tournament for Riichi Mahjong in Scotland, and it could not have been more of a success. In total, 32 participants from all over came to the New Melville Bridge Club to play 4 hanchans at the tournament and feedback has been very positive!

Prizes for the Tournament featuring the amazing crocheted Maneki-neko

Prizes included a crocheted Maneki-neko, chocolate easter eggs and Omamori bonuses for exceptional hands. We knew that this would be many participants first in-person tournament, so we bridged the gap between players most familiar with common online rulesets and the tournament setting by modifying the 2025 World Riichi Championship ruleset to be more in line with our vision of an approachable tournament.

This included Red Fives, Multiple simultaneous Ron, and Nagashi Mangan. Sadly we didn’t see a Yakuman at the debut event, but we did get at least one Kokushi Musou tenpai!

And of course congratulations are in order for the top 3 players Chenyang Hou, Kit Yu Lam, and Miou Lou for their fantastic performance at the event.

We are eagerly anticipating the next event and hope we can exceed the high expectations we’ve set at this first one, hopefully we’ll see you all there!
